Background
Dr Iqbal Malik attended Peterhouse College, Cambridge University and then Guy’s Hospital, London. He qualified in 1991. After junior jobs in London, he joined the training scheme in cardiology in west London.
Dr Malik continued with his PhD thesis at Hammersmith Hospital in vascular biology before being appointed a consultant in 2003. He has been divisional director for clinical governance, catheter laboratory director, and currently is the lead for structural heart disease. This involves the transcatheter aortic valve (TAVI), septal defect (atrial septal defect and patent foramen ovale) programmes and para-valvular leak programmes.

Research & publications
Dr Malik has a research interest in the above and also left atrial appendage closure. He also leads the Imperial Cardiovascular Simulation Training (iCAST) programme, with world-class immersive behavioural simulation to aid patient safety. He is the representative for Imperial at the Pan-London Heart Attack Centre Group and the London Cardiology Steering Group.
