Ms Patricia Ortega

Background

Dr Patricia M Ortega began her medical education in 2003 and obtained her Medical Degree from the University of Navarra (Spain) in 2009. She went on to complete her specialist training in General Surgery at the same institution in 2015, developing a strong foundation in advanced laparoscopic and upper gastrointestinal surgery. Alongside her clinical training, she earned her Doctorate (PhD) with research focused on oncological surgery.

Her international experience includes the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota), Imperial College London, and bariatric endoscopy training in Strasbourg, France.

Before relocating to the United Kingdom, Dr. Ortega served as a consultant general and upper GI surgeon at the University Clinic of Navarra, one of Spain’s leading academic hospitals. She subsequently undertook a prestigious Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at St. Mary’s Hospital, London, awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS). Between 2020 and 2022, she performed over 300 bariatric procedures, consolidating her expertise in metabolic and minimally invasive surgery.

Dr Ortega is deeply committed to patient-centred care, recognising and addressing the individual needs, concerns, and aspirations of every patient. She fosters an environment of empathy, trust, and open communication - principles she considers essential throughout the surgical journey.

Her areas of expertise include metabolic and bariatric surgery (including a wide range of procedures), laparoscopic hernia repair, anti-reflux procedures and hiatal hernia repair, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy. She has also developed growing expertise in endoscopic bariatric and metabolic interventions, including endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty.

Through her dedication, Dr Ortega continues to make significant contributions to the advancement of bariatric, metabolic and general surgery both in the United Kingdom and internationally.
