Arthrosamid® injections for knee pain

About this treatment

Arthrosamid® is a non-surgical treatment for people with osteoarthritis in the knee. The treatment involves an initial local anaesthetic to numb the area followed by an injection of a soft gel, which helps cushion the joint, easing pain and helping you move more comfortably. You will start to feel less pain within four weeks, which can help you move more comfortably and enjoy a better quality of life.

Benefits of this treatment

The benefits of Arthrosamid® include:

  • Long‑lasting pain relief: Arthrosamid® can help reduce knee pain for up to three to five years, making everyday activities more comfortable.
  • Better movement and function: by adding cushioning inside the knee joint, many people find they can move more easily and get back to their usual activities.
  • A minimally invasive treatment: the injection is a non‑surgical procedure with very few risks and a much shorter recovery time compared to knee replacement surgery.

Who might need Arthrosamid® knee injections

Arthrosamid® may be suitable if you have moderate to severe knee osteoarthritis and other treatments such as lifestyle changes, pain medication, or physiotherapy have not helped.

What to expect

Having an Arthrosamid® injection is a simple process and usually takes less than 30 minutes.

Here’s what to expect:

  • you’ll be made comfortable, and your knee will be cleaned with an antiseptic solution.
  • your doctor will give you a local anaesthetic to numb the area, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the procedure.
  • your doctor will gently insert a needle into the knee joint and inject the Arthrosamid® gel.
  • once the injection is complete, the needle is removed, and a small plaster or dressing is placed over the site.

You can walk immediately after receiving an Arthrosamid® knee injection and after a short observation period (usually 30 minutes), you will be able to return home.
